On ESPN radio's Mike and Mike program, ESPN analyst Cris Carter defends Coughlin. Please start listening at the 8 minute mark.
I disagree with Carter. A question I have for Carter, how come the Giants did not call a play action pass? This play would have frozen the linebackers and they would have had a shot to score a touchdown. In addition, the Giants have a big target; however, unbeknownst to me, Gilbride chooses not use his 6 foot 7 inch TE Kevin Boss. As for small receivers not scoring in the red zone, again, I disagree with Carter. The Redskins "Fun Bunch" small smurf like receivers, Alvin Garrett, Gary Clark, Charlie Brown, and Virgil Seay caught touchdowns in the red zone area. Moreover, the Giants had a 5 foot 8 receiver Stephen Baker, the touchdown maker. Recall, in Super Bowl XXV, he caught a red zone pass- a fourteen yard pass, Mr. Carter. Getting back to Carter's misguided argument, the Giants needed a win. After three straight losses, the Giants defense has played poorly. To their credit, the Giants defense played decent against Arizona and up until the last drive against the Chargers. Apparently, Carter has not seen the Saints, Cardinals, and Eagles games. Brees, Warner, McNabb, and now Rivers have carved up the Giants' defense. Moreover, Carter took a shot at Giants cornerback Corey Webster. Indeed, Webster did not have a good game. It was not his fault the Giants lost. His head coach should have not put him in that position. Because of the Giants lack of pressure all season long and their many holes in the secondary, Coach Coughlin as well as Carter are deluding themselves if they think this Giants' defense was going to keep the Chargers out of the end zone.
